Dr. Faith Kandie

We are very pleased to announce that our staff member Dr. Faith Kandie was selected for funding and her project awarded by the Selection Committee under the Seed Grant for New African Principal Investigators (SG-NAPI). This programme is able to support Dr. Kandie's scientific project financially, thanks to the generous contribution of the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). The project focuses on monitoring of surface water and wastewater systems as a source and sink of human exposure to chemicals of emerging concern within western Kenya. This is also called wastewater epidemiology, an aspect where information from Kenya and larger Africa is limited.

The grant will cater for two master's students, laboratory equipment and consumables, mobility for international exchange in Germany, conference presentations and open-access publications. The project will be implemented in Moi University, School of Sciences and Aerospace Studies as well as Africa Center of Excellence in Phytochemicals, Textile and Renewable Energy (ACEII-PTRE) and in collaboration with the Helmholtz Center for Environmental Research - UFZ Leipzig.
